Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rubbermaid 5E16 FastTrack 42-Inch Vertical Ball RackCustomer Review: Great product. Very Impressed. Summary: 5 StarsI organized my garage this summer with the Rubbermaid FastTrack system on 3 different walls in my garage. We have a lot of sports balls and I also coach Soccer, so this thing is absolutely necessary. It's better than using a bag or a simple basket too.
Pros:
1. Easy access to any ball - even the ones on the bottom.
2. Don't have to tip it over or dump it to get to the ball you want.
3. Holds all main sports balls: Footballs, Soccer Balls, Basket Balls, Kick Balls, most larger Nerf balls. Will even hold a softball and perhaps baseballs, but I'd put several in a small bag to make it work.
4. Lots of storage room. I currently store 2 footballs, 2 basketballs, 4 soccer balls and some cones in one of these. They really hold a lot.
5. Solid construction.
6. Easily put together in a few minutes with a screwdriver.
7. You can hang stuff off of the bottom, like a basket of tennis balls or bag of baseballs with a cheap hook from any hardware store.
8. Easy to move to the back corner of the garage in winter to get your snow shovel up front!
Cons
1. Could perhaps have been engineered with 3 of the bands instead of just two, as I've had a football pop out on me, but see above for the number of balls (I'm definitely over the limit and the bands are stretched out a bit).
2. I'm really stretching to find ANY flaws with the design, and the only thing I can really think of is a way to secure the bands at the top with a screw or bar so that they can't pop out of their socket. This only happened once right after I put it together and I don't think I had it in the socket all the way. It hasn't happened since, so this is very likely just me.
I have no idea how long the bands will last, but I'm betting at least 5-10 years as long as it's not in direct sunlight. This is absolutely worth it to help you organize your garage.
If anyone from Rubbermaid is listening to design ideas, how about a small sub-bin under the bottom to hold a few baseballs or softballs and 2-3 hooks on either side of the top and bottom rims to hold bats, gloves, and even shoes.
Either way, I'm giving this a 5. It's solidly built, well thought out, and works as advertised. All of the Rubbermaid stuff is pricey, but it looks nice and it's functional and easy to move around, and there aren't any serious competitors, so the price is what it is.
